As Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resource, Professor Dominik Zaum is responsible for staff deployment, the overall course programme, and helping shape the capital investment programme in teaching and research facilities. He is a member of the University Executive Board.
Professor Zaum read Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Balliol College, Oxford, and subsequently completed an MPhil and DPhil in International Relations at Oxford University.
Following work with the UN mission in Kosovo, he took up the Rose Research Fellowship in International Relations at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford in 2004. Professor Zaum joined the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading in 2006. He served as Head of the School of Politics, Economics, and International Relations from 2014 to 2015, and was Research Dean (Prosperity and Resilience) from 2015 to 2018. For four years, (2011-15), he was seconded as a Senior Research Fellow in Conflict and Fragility to the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
Professor Zaum’s research focuses on the political economy of international post-conflict statebuilding efforts; on corruption (in particular in contexts of state fragility); and on international organisations, in particular the UN. His research has been funded by the ESRC, the British Academy, DFID, the World Bank, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
