Close to campus, Sherfield Hall offers a range of rooms for different requirements, arranged into three-storey houses. You'll have the option to relax in the Junior Common Room, which has space for socialising and a pool table.

Meal plans

The University recommends all first-year students select a Meal Plan with your Accommodation choice to support your transition to life at university and help you reach your full potential academically. 

We offer a choice of 3, 7, 14 or unlimited number of Meals per week across 5 large dining sites to all students regardless of where you live.

Students with specific requirements

Single-sex accommodation

Single-sex areas are available at Sherfield Hall. Single-sex university accommodation means sharing a flat (not a room) with other students of the same sex. Please be aware in either male or female single-sex accommodation, guests (including overnight guests) may be of a different sex. Visiting staff members (cleaners, maintenance staff etc.) may also be of a different sex.

Quieter lifestyle accommodation

Sherfield Hall has rooms suitable for students who prefer a quieter life. We aim to allocate students together who consider themselves to have a ‘quieter lifestyle’. Please note, we can’t guarantee a permanent quiet environment.

Communal living will always involve some level of noise, including from outside the building. However by placing students requesting a quieter lifestyle together we hope to better meet the different expectations of our students.

Accessibility

There is no lift access in Sherfield Hall. Rooms are arranged over two or three floors, depending on the building.

Accommodation Guarantee

Prospective students are guaranteed a place in halls if they are:

  • A new full-time undergraduate who holds Reading as a Firm UCAS choice and applies for accommodation by 1 August** and satisfies any conditions of their academic offer by 3 September 2025.
  • A new full-time postgraduate who has accepted an offer from the University and applies for accommodation by 1 August** and satisfies any conditions of their academic offer by 3 September 2025.
